Witkop Solar Park Environmental and Social Performance Report 

 The Witkop Solar Plant has engaged an independent auditor for the year 2023 to conduct a comprehensive integrated environmental audit. This audit aims to assess compliance with the Environmental Authorization granted in 2011, the Water Use License (WUL) issued in 2021, and the Environmental Management Programme (EMPr, version 05 of 2023). 

The audit’s scope encompasses a thorough evaluation of compliance with the conditions outlined in the WUL, a desktop review of pertinent documentation, an on-site inspection of the solar facility, and the formulation of Comments and Recommendations (C&R), along with a Corrective Action Plan (CAP). Additionally, the audit assesses adherence to Good International Industry Practice (GIIP), referencing the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability (2012). 

For the year 2023, the integrated environmental compliance score, reflecting compliance with the Environmental Authorization, Water Use License, and Environmental Management Programme, has been documented at 94%. This score indicates a substantial upward trend in compliance over the preceding years. 

The successful achievement of this favourable environmental and social performance trend can be attributed to the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including regulatory authorities, the management team of the Witkop Solar Plant, local communities, and environmental organizations. Each stakeholder has played a critical role in ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, implementing best practices, and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship.
